Class Announcements/Information

Welcome to First Grade!  We are going to have a great year!

Dear Parents,

The beginning of the year is always a hectic time. Every student has been given a homework folder that should go home every night and return every morning. Please check the VRS web site for the list of those forms that must be returned.

Homework is a very important part of your child’s day. I ask that you help with homework, and if your child is having difficulty with an assignment, please notify me so that I may review the skill with him/her. Every child works at his/her own pace. Written homework should not take longer than 30 minutes. In addition to written homework, your child will be assigned reading every night.

A lot of information will be posted on our class website.  Please check there everyday for homework and other important announcements.

Here is how to access our Class Homepage:

  • Click on Directories
  • Click on Class Directory
  • Click 1st  Grade
  • Click on Mrs. Sakowski's First Grade

On this page will be the anticipated homework for the week. Please be advised that this may be subject to change, but I will be sure you are aware of any changes. I will encourage your child to be mindful of the assignments and take home all the correct books and worksheets. Please have your child check his/her own backpack for all the work that must be returned the next day.

Scholastic book order forms will come home once a month. If you would like to purchase books, there will be a letter attached with directions on how to order directly online.

Our class schedule is based on a six day schedule. The schedule is run from Days A to F. The first day of school, Thursday, September 7th,  is Day A. I will post the NEXT DAY'S LETTER in the homework.

We will have snack everyday. Please send in a healthy snack. IT MUST BE A PEANUT FREE SNACK! Milk money will be collected once a month. A reminder will be on the class page as to when the monthly payment is due. PLEASE do not forget payment on the scheduled date. You will be notified of the cost of the milk each month. Payment must be in cash and no refunds will be made for days that your child is absent. Place the money in an envelope with your child’s name and choice of milk; either white or chocolate. MILK MONEY WILL BE COLLECTED Friday, 9/8.

**Please remember the new food policy!  No food/snacks for birthday celebrations.  You can send in something that is not edible.**

I will be sending you directions on how to sign up for the Remind app.  This app will be used to let you know of any upcoming events, reminders for book fairs, change in any homework plans/ etc.  I HIGHLY recommend you sign up for this.  You can also use this to contact me.  It's like "text messaging", but without knowing your phone number.  Many parents used this to let me know of any pick up changes or if their child was sick.

You can contact me anytime at msakowski@clarkschools.org or through the REMIND App.
